PREFACE

National disasters are part and parcel of our environment. Their manifestations are hardly predictable and they often disrupt the lives of the communities that are affected by their disastrous consequences.

Like other countries around the world, Burkina Faso, a Sahelian country in the heart of west Africa with a fragile economy, constantly experiences the consequences of natural disasters. Indeed, the country alternately experiences the phenomena of droughts and inundations, thus exposing the poverty-stricken populations to their disastrous, even dramatic consequences.

Thus, wiser for several years of harsh experiences, the Government has adopted a strategy for prevention and reduction of the disastrous effects of Natural Disasters, by setting up the National Committee for Emergency and Rehabilitation Assistance (CONASUR).

As a public institution with a humanitarian vocation, the CONASUR is essentially in charge of the implementation of rehabilitation programmes following periods of crisis.

Our website is therefore intended for presenting the institution, its attributions and roles, its functioning, its methods of intervention and the Partnership opportunities in the assistance of populations undergoing the consequences of disasters.

My sincere wish is that this communication channel will make you sensitive to the beneficiaries of our emergency programmes of rehabilitation and prevention; so I welcome you to this website, and I can already assure you of our availability for collaboration, as well as our readiness to consider your suggestions for its improvement.
Please find here, Dear Visitors, the expression of my sincere gratitude for the consideration and interest you are showing us by consulting our website.

The Minister of Social Action and National Solidarity ,
President of CONASUR

Me Gilbert OUEDRAOGO
